Holme Trakehners, solar PV
Transforming the roof of this stud farm barn into a sun harnessing machine.
Holme Trakehners, solar PV
The Challenge
Holme Trakehner, a world class horse stud breeding the Trakehner line of horses, required a green energy solution to meet their high demand for energy. With power hungry facilities that include a solarium, flood lit area, a horse walker and a hot water shower bay, Holme Trakehner were looking for technology that could be both cost-effective and environmentally friendly, whilst catering for their considerably large energy requirements.
The Solution
Having assessed the premises, we saw that an existing barn had an ideal roof to support a an array of 112 solar panels. Not only was this solar panel installation aesthetically pleasing, it also added to the professional and environmentally friendly appearance of the yard. The green energy from the solar PV system was able to be supplied both to the stud facilities and to the domestic accommodation on site, too.
The Result
Holme Trakehner are now using their new solar PV system to power all yard facilities as well as the domestic residence. The solar technology is now delivering a saving of over £4500 per annum on fuel bills for the stud farm, and a 16.5% ROI. On top of this, Holme Trakehner have seen a reduction of their carbon footprint by 13.4 tonnes of CO2 per year.
