Stepping Towards Sustainability: Goldline’s Solar Installation Success

Project Overview
Goldline, a well-established supplier of women’s and children’s footwear to major UK high street brands, partnered with Plug Me In’s solar division to reduce its carbon footprint and lower operational costs through renewable energy. The 22.5 kWp solar photovoltaic (PV) system installed at their Kettering headquarters is expected to generate approximately 22,812 kWh of electricity annually. This solar setup will yield an estimated £3,600 in first-year savings, while helping to reduce CO₂ emissions by 80 tonnes over 20 years.

Installation details
The installation was completed across two buildings at Goldline’s facility: the rear office building’s tilted roof and the front office building’s slate-tiled façade. To address the unique characteristics of each roof, customised mounting solutions were applied:

•    Rear roof: A K2 roof hook system designed specifically for tiled roofs was used to secure the solar panels.
•    Front facade: Given the unique pitch of the front building’s slate façade, a bespoke solution involving Solar Limpets was employed to safely mount rails for panel attachment.

This carefully planned setup allowed for optimal positioning and stability, ensuring maximum energy production. The entire installation was completed in two weeks, minimising disruption to the client’s daily operations.

Financial and environmental impact
The solar installation at Goldline is anticipated to pay for itself through energy savings over the coming years, with immediate reductions in energy costs. This system supports Goldline’s commitment to sustainability, helping them decrease their reliance on grid electricity and lower operational expenses. Over the next 20 years, the project is expected to offset 80 tonnes of CO₂ emissions, aligning with Goldline’s environmentally responsible values.
